25/11/08 Local volunteers visit the studio of BBC London 94.9fm
Local Volunteers from 91.8 Hayes FM were treated to a visit to the studios of BBC London 94.9fm last week. They were shown at first hand how news is gathered and had a chance to see the 6.30pm localTV news broadcast live. That was followed by a Q & A session, with a BBC Editor, to find out more about working at the BBC and how Radio and TV news is brought together.
The visit was part of Hayes FM's remit to offer wider access to people living in Greater West London to the broadcast media. Many volunteers have undergone an accredited training programme, with many already contributing to live programmes on 91.8.
Penny Wrout, Communities Editor, BBC London said, "I really enjoyed meeting such a bunch of enthusiastic and thoughtful people from Hayes FM last night"
Some volunteers with a particular interest in Radio will be invited to spend a week with the BBC next year.
Managing Editor Sutish K Sharma said, "The partnership with BBC London has been very positive. The visits have allowed local people to use the experience to make a real difference at local level"
It's what localness is all about, acting local, thinking global, making the change, being the difference!!!
